What is aging in place?
Aging in place is the ability to safely and comfortably live in the home and community of one’s choice, regardless of age, income, or ability level. NAIPC® Greater Atlanta’s mission is to make aging in place a viable option for those living in the Metropolitan Atlanta area.
What does NAIPC® stand for?
NAIPC® is the National Aging in Place Council. It is a national organization based in Washington, DC, with local chapters throughout the United States. Our goal is to be a unified resource for consumers served by a network of local chapters, that lead the effort to Age in Place.
When was the Greater Atlanta chapter founded?
The Greater Atlanta Chapter was founded in October 2009 to create a local source of accurate information and quality resources for people who want to remain in their homes as they get get older. An educational program was developed and presented to a crowd of over 40 that came to a local library in Dunwoody. We have now grown to over 50 members comprised of business owners, government agencies, individuals, and not-for-profit organizations that all support aging in place in the Metropolitan Atlanta area.
What is ACT III?
ACT III is a comprehensive planning tool that helps people identity and prioritize what they will need to age in a healthy and purposeful way.
Why complete the ACT III?
Given the choice, most individuals want to remain in their homes as they get older, and research shows that living at home improves health, social interaction, family relationships, and can yield cost savings. To live the way we want in our later years, it is important to identify and understand what will be needed.
ACT III helps to identify and plan for needs in these areas: community and social interaction, health and wellness, housing, personal finance, and transportation. With proper planning and preparation, we will be able to live safely, comfortably, and independently in a home of our choice in our later years.
